It meant paying Rs3500 extra for a private tour, which we accepted. At first we were skeptical as the first hour we saw only one elephant, but around 4:30pm the herds began coming out of the woods to drink and feed. We ended up seeing many elephants, including babies, very close up - it was magical and unforgettable. There were about 10 other jeeps, so it didn’t feel overcrowded. The only downside was that our guide tended to stay farther…”
